SVGMS Field Trip - JMU Mineral Museum & Geology Lab

The field trip to JMU was quite exciting – several members brought unknown minerals for Dr. Kearns to identify using his state-of-the-art equipment. We studied micro-minerals and observed crystals under the microscopes, and were treated to some delicious snacks.

He also had samples of minerals for members who make a donation to his department. The money is used for trips and educational projects for the geology department.

The highlight of course, was the mineral museum, and Dr. Kearns announced that he had received a very large donation of new minerals.
