SVGMS Field Trip - Turkey Hollow Farm October 19, 2019
Our club had 27 members attend a field trip offered at Turkey Hollow Farm near Vesuvius Virginia this past Saturday. We also had approximately 20 members from the Roanoke and Lynchburg clubs join us. The owner of the farm, Gary Ochsenbein, not only allowed us to collect on his farm, but provided us with a lunch cookout.
Our club would like to thank Gary, his wife Martha, and local residents Rick and Dee for allowing us to collect on his property and for a great meal. The unakite was abundant and easy to find for both very young and more “experienced” club members. The weather was perfect, the leaves were starting to turn, and everyone came away with plenty of unakite both for specimen use or lapidary material.
