❖ ❖ ❖

New Business:

  1. Jack Glenn said we have some new vendors for the show. Everyone is reminded to help volunteer at the show for a few hours. There is a Friday night carry-in meal that we provide for the vendors. Show is Sept. 21-23 at EXPO.
  2. Debbie announced that due to Wayne & Brenda’s home being damaged by lightning, Scott Steele will be the field trip coordinator for several months. We have no plans presently due to storms and hot weather.

Program Report:
We had quite an interesting program this month, as it was “Look what I made” time.

Various members brought items that they had made from minerals.

Leo showed his agate silver burnisher.

Debbie had photos w/ a sample drawer and an organized list of minerals that she is putting in a museum she is organizing at her home.

Charlie showed bolos and belt buckles, while Cara had some beautiful polished stones of various shapes for jewelry.

Michelle loves making copper wire-wrapped stones, and Cindy displayed night lights made from agate slices and some jewelry.

Jack had a jiggle-eyed stone man, and Jilly had some mixed media jewelry. Jilly suggested for organizing materials, Stanley has sectioned drawers w/lids that keep everything closed during travel.

Calvin demonstrated how Katherine designs and wraps gem trees using beads and tiny shells and minerals. Her palm trees were quite unique with tiny coconuts! (Katherine was unable to attend due to illness, so thanks to her husband for taking her place.)

It is amazing what a little imagination can do with the same materials!

Field Trip Info:
Please refer to “SVGMS Field Trips News” documents you receive from the club secretary for a description of the current status of field trips and details about upcoming trips.

If you are a club member with paid-up dues and you do not receive the “Field Trip News” document when they are emailed, please contact the secretary at loverocksandminerals@gmail.com or at a monthly meeting to correct this issue.

This will be the principle way information about field trips are distributed to members, so we want to insure everyone is correctly addressed.

Please email me at loverocksandminerals@gmail.com if you would be seriously interested in a trip to Arkansas sometime in 2019. The trip would be for several days and each club member would be responsible for transportation, lodging, and collecting fees and equipment. Wayne will work on this if there is enough interest. Thanks!

Looking ahead:
August meeting: Program will be finalized soon.

Remember that the
lapidary shop is open the Saturday following a regular meeting and on the second Saturday after that. Leo, Charlie & Jack can assist you. Open from 9 am to noon.

There are several slab saws and trim saws. Keep in mind that safety is a priority, and wear closed toe shoes, safety glasses, with no loose hair or long sleeves. Children must be supervised and closely monitored to insure they are safely using the equipment. Check
this page to see what you can learn to do!
