Official Field Trip Notice of the Shenandoah Valley Gem and Mineral Society

Where:
JMU Mineral Museum and Laboratory

When: Saturday, Jan. 26, 2012

Time: 8:00 A.M.

Directions: I-81 North to Exit 245; turn left on Port Republic Rd.

Proceed to South Main Street (Rt. 11) and turn right at the light

Proceed northward on South Main Street to the 3rd traffic light, then turn left onto West Grace St.

Proceed to the traffic light on South High Street (Rt. 42); Memorial Hall (the old Harrisonburg High School) is directly in front of you

Go straight across South High Street (Rt. 42). The Mineral Museum is on the left (south side) along Grace Street; Entrance "E" to the building

After entering the building at Entrance “E”, make an immediate right. The museum is at the end of the hall. Park either in the front of the main building or continue on Grace St. to the back parking lot. The lab is located one story down after entering the Museum entrance to the left.

We will have the lab to ourselves this year. Last year was a lot of fun and if you can, please make this trip. There is no meeting spot so just be at the school at 8:00 a.m. Dr. Kearns will be providing coffee, juice and breakfast items for us. This is a great chance to see the lab equipment in action and bring any hard-to-identify items you may have.

Last year Dr. Kearns had minerals for sale at a very reasonable price (Cash or check ONLY). We will spend about an hour in the museum. We will finish up around noon.

The deadline for signing up is Wednesday, January 23rd, 2013. I need to give the member count to Dr. Kearns.

Thanks,
