November 2012 Program

Our Guest Speaker was Club Member Mary Loose DeViney.

She presented a talk on "The Geology of the Building Stones of Downtown Charlottesville”.

Mary put this presentation together as one of the featured speakers for the 250th anniversary of Charlottesville.

The presentation included photographs of buildings, parks, and statues in Charlottesville that included rocks and minerals used in construction, the history of numerous buildings, and possible source quarry sites for the materials discussed.

I saw several folks taking notes; this is quite unusual when we have a guest speaker.

Mary spent a year researching the data for this presentation; this was evident by the detail and in-depth information she presented.

Thanks, Mary!
